inCharge Secures LEADER Funding for Co-Design Project: Putting the Person Truly at the Centre
We are thrilled to announce that inCharge has secured funding through the Inishowen Development Partnership’s LEADER Programme to co-design the supported person’s view and access to the inCharge App — a major step in placing the individual truly at the centre of person-centred care.
Celebrating the funding award, inCharge Founder Karen McCormick said:
“For families like ours, it’s always about supporting the person we love — and for the inCharge team, that’s the reason we exist. The app already has two user views, and now we’re adding the central one: the supported person.
People sometimes ask why we built in that sequence. The answer is simple. Where care relationships, supports and systems are complex, we need to solve problems at multiple levels. We started by supporting the care organiser — often a parent — with a single source of truth, a place to store all the knowledge they carry. Then we supported paid carers with better information flow and transparency, helping them to do their jobs well.
For the supported person, we wanted to take the time to understand potential access needs and to provide a stable, working platform they could truly test. Families and personal assistants helped us shape and test the first versions, and now, together with supported individuals and their advocates, we’ll co-design the experience to make sure we’re building the right tool, with the right access, for them.”
Careful, Creative and Innovative
Andrew Ward, Joint CEO of Inishowen Development Partnership, added:
“Inishowen businesses and community organisations often punch above their weight when it comes to creativity, resilience and innovation. inCharge is grounded in real-life experience of care and caring, and we’re delighted to see this project succeed through both local and county evaluation committees with flying colours. We can’t wait to see this new user view of the app brought to life.”
With work already under way, the inCharge co-design team met in person for the first time this week. While remote and digital-first approaches have been key to attracting a talented team, this session set the rhythm for collaboration — agreeing the co-design process, shared principles, and the long-term commitment to making inCharge a success.
